BOOSTER CLUB ATHLETICS BANQUET

The Midway Athletics Booster Club hosted its annual end of the year banquet at the Community Center of Harrisonville on Monday May 18. Over two hundred athletes, coaches, parents, and friends attended the event. Booster Club officers and members Renee Robinson, Allyson Doyle, Laura Eberle, Jennifer Lambertz, Dana Sutcliffe, and Kelli Yahnig coordinated the event.
Coach Guy Berkenpas presented the volleyball awards. Senior Bree Renner got the team award for most career kills. Senior Shelby Garrigus received the heart award. Senior Haley Hastie received the team first award.
The cheerleading awards were presented by cheerleading sponsor Tammy Brown. Seniors Lesli Wright and Amanda Russell received the co-captain awards. Lesli Wright received the senior leadership award, and Aubree Brooke received the underclassmen leadership award.
Coach Bryan Stahl presented the girls' track & field awards. Freshman Mackenzie Weis received the award for the most points scored by a female track athlete. Senior Shelby Garrigus and junior Shannon Carver will have to wait until after the state championship meet this weekend to see who will receive the award for the most points scored by a female athlete in field events. Kelsey Weis received the girls' team first award.
Coach Doug Carder presented the boys' track & field awards. Senior Justin Beshore was the male point's award winner for track events, and sophomore Zach Goddard was the male point's award winner for field events. The boys' track & field team first award went to senior Clint Hayes.
The cross country awards were presented by Coach Doug Carder. Freshman Mackenzie Weis received the girl's number one runner award, and freshman Paul Stark received the boy's number one runner award. Freshman Kayla Robinson received the girls' team first award, and senior Jacob Beaven received the boys' team first award. Freshman Josie Riggs was the most improved award girl, and senior Christopher Zoog was the most improved boy.
Coach Larry Burchett presented the football awards. Seniors Sam Riggs and Derek Worthley were named for the co-captain awards. Senior Shane Henry received the most valuable player award. Freshman Ryan Minta received the hustle award, and senior Jason Kurzweil received the most improved player award.
The boys' basketball awards were presented by Coach Larry Burchett. Seniors Shane Henry and Derek Worthley were named for the co-captain awards. Senior Derek Worthley also received the rebounding award. Junior Josh Fischer received the free throw percentage award. Sam Riggs received the award for the most assists. Jason Kurzweil received the most improved player award. Senior Derek Worthley were named most valuable player.
Coach Chad Dean presented the girls' basketball awards. Seniors Kelsey Weis and Shelby Garrigus were named for the co-captain awards. Senior Kelsey Weis received the rebounding award. Junior Janae Semsch received the free throw percentage award. Senior Bree Renner received the award for the most assists. Senior Shelby Garrigus received the hustle award.
Seniors Kelsey Weis and Justin Beshore each received a Chris Richardson Sportsmanship Award. The MSHSAA Good Sport Awards went to junior Leigh Anne Stark and senior Clint Hayes.
Seniors Kelsey Weis, Lesli Wright, Shelby Garrigus, Sam Riggs, and Justin Beshore received Cass Midway's highest honor in athletics, the Viking 24/7 Award in honor of their participation in three sports per year all four years of his high school career.
Each senior each coach and was presented a gift card from the Booster Club to culminate the evening's awards. |
