VIKES SHUT OUT WHIRLWINDS

Midway's football Vikings capped their 2009 WEMO Conference schedule with a 28-0 shutout of the Archie Whirlwinds 28-0 on Friday, October 9. The game was played at Archie. The Vikings finished their conference schedule with a 5-1 record. The Vikes head into district play with a 5-2 overall mark.
"We can do no worse than a tie for second in the conference," said Midway head coach Larry Burchett. "However, playing well going into the district games is more important right now. At this point in the season, you really do start all over."
The Vikings jumped in front of Archie at the 5:26 mark of the first quarter on a 12 yard touchdown pass from Taylor Ayres to Bryan Fregeau. Michael Kraemer added the point after to make the score Midway 7 and Archie 0.
Midway scored at 1:47 of the second quarter on a 33 yard touchdown pass from Taylor Ayres to Zach Goddard. Michael Kraemer's point after made the score Vikings 14 and Whirlwinds 0.
The Vikes found the end zone again with 0:17 to play before the half on an 86 yard touchdown pass from Taylor Ayres to Zach Goddard. Michael Kraemer kicked the PAT to give Midway a 21-0 lead over Archie heading into the half.
Beau Bollinger scored the last touchdown of the game on a 12 yard run with 7:57 to play in the third quarter. Michael Kraemer made the point after to give the Vikings a 28-0 victory over the Whirlwinds.
Midway rolled up 334 yards of total offense behind the offensive line of Garrett James, Michael Lading, Adrian Carder, Kylen Roberson, and Charlie Fort.
Beau Bollinger ran the ball 19 times for 64 yards. Cody Foreman gained 34 yards on 13 carries. Josh Hague had 33 yards on 5 carries. Taylor Ayres gained 14 yards on 7 carries, and Paul Stark gained 1 yard on 1 carry.
Taylor Ayres was 13 of 19 passing the ball for the Vikings for 190 yards.
Zach Goddard caught 5 passes for 136 yards. Bryan Fregeau caught 2 passes for 17 yards, Josh Fischer caught 2 passes for 15 yards, and Cody Foreman caught 2 passes for 3 yards. Josh Hague had 1 reception for 12 yards, and Beau Bollinger had 1 catch for 7 yards.
Cody Foreman averaged 31.4 yards per kick on 5 kickoffs, and Cody averaged 33.7 yards per punt on 3 punts. Cody Foreman had an 8 yard kickoff return. Zach Goddard returned a punt 22 yards, and Bryan Fregeau had a punt return of 8 yards.
Midway's defensive unit forced four Archie turnovers and completely shut down the Whirlwind offense in the second half. Tyler Yahnig, Josh Fischer, and Zach Smith all had fumble recoveries for the Vikings. Beau Bollinger picked off an Archie pass, which he returned 11 yards.
Beau Bollinger made 12 unassisted tackles and assisted on 5 passes to lead the Midway defense. Garrett James had 5 solo tackles and 4 assists. Taylor Ayres had 4 unassisted tackles 6 assists. Zach Goddard had 4 solo tackles and 2 assists.
Josh Hague had 4 unassisted tackles. Josh Fischer had 3 unassisted tackles and 3 assists. Cody Foreman had 3 solo tackles and 2 assists. Tyler Yahnig had 3 unassisted tackles and 1 assisted tackles.
Michael Lading had 1 solo tackle and 2 assists. Kylen Roberson had 1 unassisted tackle and 1 assist. Bryan Fregeau, Paul Stark, Dilan Worthley, and Adam Doyle each made 1 solo tackle.
Dalton Driggs assisted on 2 tackles. Tyler Johnston, Tyler Machal, and Zach Smith each assisted on 1 tackle.
Midway will open district play on the road at Crest Ridge High School, a member school of the I-70 Conference, on Friday, October 16. The Cougars are 1-6 on the season. Crest Ridge defeated Santa Fe 36-16 on October 9.
"Crest Ridge has played a tough schedule, and it's obvious that they don't quit battling," said Coach Burchett. "Crest Ridge got a win on Friday to build momentum heading into districts. You have to play every game from here on out like it's the playoffs, because for all intents-and-purposes, the playoffs start Friday.
The Crest Ridge/Cass Midway game will kickoff at 7:00 PM.
