The Vikes and Lady Vikes cross country teams participated in the Jayhawk-Linn Invitational (Mound City, KS) on October 12. The meet was originally scheduled for October 8, but was postponed due to the recent stormy weather.
Midway's Lady Vikings won their seventh consecutive meet of 2009 with a team score of 24 in the varsity girls' division. Girard (KS) was second with a team score of 35, and Fort Scott (KS) was third with a team score of 60.
Mackenzie Weis won her seventh race of the season blistering the 4000 meter course at Sugar Valley Lake in a first place time of 15:17. Sabrina Willey was fifth in a time of 17:18, Kayla Robinson was sixth in a time of 17:25, and Josie Riggs was seventh in a time of 17:33.
Victoria Bynum ran a twelfth place time of 18:05, and Leigh Anne Stark clocked a time of 20:01 to place twenty-seventh.
In the girls' JV 4000 meter race Caitlin Chaffin was third in a time of 19:32. Allie Hayes was seventh in a time of 20:18. Zoe Eberle ran a nineteenth place time of 22:58, and Danielle Ackermann was twentieth in a time of 23:58.
Central Heights (KS) won the boys' varsity team title with a score of 30. Girard (KS) was second with a team score of 33, and Wellsville (KS) was third with a team score of 61. All of the Midway boys raced in the JV race.
Paden Forester was eighth in the JV boys' 5000 meter race in a time of 20:30. Roy Spurgeon was twentieth in a time of 21:36. Justin Fielder ran a twenty-ninth place time of 22:57.
Hank Chrisman was thirty-first in a time of 23:07. Cameron Willey was thirty-second in a time of 23:08. Bailey Scholl ran a thirty-sixth place time of 25:40.
"We had a good day from our girls and boys," said Midway head coach Doug Carder. "I was pleased with the way we competed in all of our races."
Midway's harriers are scheduled to race at the 3rd Annual Sherwood Invitational on October 14. Saturday, October 17 the Vikes and Lady Vikes race at the West Platte Invitational.
