SLOPPY COURSE/GREAT RESULTS
October 15, 2009 Cass Midway High School
The rain clouds parted long enough for the Cass Midway cross country teams to race at the 3rd Annual Sherwood Invitational on October 14. The course was very muddy and sloppy, but it was a good day to be from Midway.
Midway's varsity Lady Vikings won their eighth consecutive meet of 2009 with a team score of 22. Holden was second with a team score of 33. University Academy Charter was third in the girls' division with a team score of 75.
Mackenzie Weis kept her own personal eight meet winning streak alive with a first place time of 19:56 on the swampy 5000 meter course around the Sherwood campus. Kayla Robinson was third in a time of 22:14. Sabrina Willey was fourth in a time of 22:37, and Josie Riggs was fifth in a time of 22:53.
Victoria Bynum raced to a ninth place time of 23:31. Leigh Anne Stark was fourteenth in a time of 25:42.
In the girls' 5000 meter JV race Caitlin Chaffin placed first in a time of 25:17. Allie Hayes was second in a time of 26:39. Danielle Ackermann ran a fifth place time of 32:46.
The Midway boys raced in the JV boys' 5000 meter event.
Paden Forester was seventh in a time of 21:53. Roy Spurgeon was ninth in a time of 22:15. Hank Chrisman ran an eleventh place time of 23:10. Cameron Willey had a thirteenth place time of 24:32, and Bailey Scholl was fifteenth in a time of 26:02.
Saturday, October 17 the Vikes and Lady Vikes race at the West Platte Invitational, a meet Midway head coach Doug Carder describes as a "state quality tester."
"There will be great teams from Class 1, Class 2, and maybe Class 3 at the West Platte Invitational," said Coach Carder. "If the Midway girls emerge from the West Platte meet with the undefeated streak alive, it will be due to state championship level performances."
The West Platte Invitational is held Platte Ridge Park. The course is located on Missouri highway 371, one mile north of the Weston/Tracy exit off of I-29. (Highway 371 is the outer road on the west side of I-29.)
