Mackenzie Weis Mackenzie Weis CREIGHTON, Mo.- As soon as the gun fired, Mackenzie Weis shot to the front of the pack at Sherwood High School. Ten yards in to the cross country meet, the sophomore from Cass Midway had the lead. The race was over as soon as it began.

Weis cruised to the victory. It is nothing new for her. Weis has won all eight meets she has competed in this season. She claims she had no idea she would be this dominant this season.

"I didn't think I had gotten much faster."

Her coach, Doug Carder, chuckles when he hears that. He will tell you Mackenzie is just being modest. She finished sixth in the state as a freshman. Her times have improved dramatically since then.

"Her times are faster, and she is faster."

The clock does not lie. In the 5,000 meters, she has posted a personal-best 19:07. That is 45 seconds faster than her best time from a year ago. At this point, Weis is usually just running against clock. At Sherwood, the second place finisher was two minutes behind Weis. Her dominance makes the eight-meet win streak all the more impressive to her coach.

"It's a great accomplishment. She just a super kid. She runs to win. She stresses like everybody else when she starts a race, but she's in it to win it."
