Monday, November 23, Midway's junior high basketball teams put the hammer down on their Appleton City counterparts in a set of games played at Midway. The JH "A" Lady Vikes, the JH "A" Vikings, and the JH "B" Vikings all made quick work of their guests from St. Clair County.


The JH "A" Lady Vikings led the JH "A" Lady Bulldogs 6-2 at the end of the first quarter. At the half, the score was Midway 16 and Appleton City 2. The JH "A" Lady Vikes owned a 23-6 lead on the JH "A" Lady Bulldogs after three quarters of play. Midway defeated Appleton City by a final score of 27-6.


Baylea Jones had a team high 8 points for the JH "A" Lady Vikes. Emily Aksamit had a 6 point game, and Mady Berkenpas notched 4 points. Dee Stark, Mariah Keeney, Jessica Owens, and Jodi Rhodes each scored 2 points. Krosbie Smith added 1 point.


Midway's "A" Vikings raced out to an 18-4 first quarter lead on Appleton City's "A" Bulldogs and never looked back. The halftime score was Midway 32 and Appleton City 17. The JH "A" Vikings led the JH "A" Bulldogs 48-19 at the end of the third quarter. Midway defeated Appleton City by a final count of 55-19.


Peyton Semsch scorched the nets for a team high 20 points. Bobby Zielinski poured in 15 points. Mason Irvin tallied 7 points. Brice Renner and Tanner Yahnig each scored 4 points. Jake Lambertz scored 3 points, and Nick Sparks scored 2 points.


Midway crushed Appleton City 35-6 in the JH "B" boys' game.


Clay Dahman and Josh Farris each had 8 points for the JH "B" Vikings. Chris Chandler scored 6 points, and Conor Hayes scored 5 points. Nate Fischer, Wyatt Mabary, Jackson Eberle, and Kessler Woods each scored 2 points.


Midway's junior high "A" and "B" teams will play at Archie on Monday, November 30. The next home games for the JH Vikes and JH Lady Vikes will be December 3 vs. Drexel.
