BARSTOW OWNS THE (K)NIGHT

The quick shot of wintry weather that blanked the area on Tuesday, December 9, postponed Cass Midway's varsity basketball games with Blue Ridge Christian, but the Vikings and Lady Vikes did get in games at Barstow on Thursday, December 11.

Barstow led Midway 12-8 at the end of the first quarter of the girls' varsity game. At the half, the score was Lady Knights 31 and Lady Vikes 25. Barstow's lead over Midway was 42-31 at the end of the third quarter. The final score of the game was Lady Knights 52 and Lady Vikes 41.

Janae Semsch scored a team high 10 points for the Lady Vikes. Katie Chouinard netted 7 points. Shelby Garrigus, Bree Renner, and Tesa Renner each scored 6 points. Haley Hastie scored 4 points and Kelsey Weis scored 2 points.

Kelsey Weis and Janae Semsch each grabbed 5 rebounds. Bree Renner had 3 rebounds. Shelby Garrigus and Haley Hastie each had 2 rebounds. Jenny King had 1 rebound.

Bree Renner had 4 assists and 2 steals. Haley Hastie and Katie Chouinard each had 3 assists and each had 1 steal. Shelby Garrigus had 2 assists and 1 steal. Kelsey Weis had 1 steal.

Barstow led Midway 19-12 at the end of the first quarter of the varsity boys' game. The halftime score was Knights 29 and Vikings 20. Barstow held a 44-33 over Midway at the end of the third quarter. The final score was Knights 57 and Vikings 44.

Derek Worthley scored a team high 15 points for the Vikings. Shane Henry tallied 11 points, and Josh Fischer chipped in 7 points. Jason Kurzweil had a 5 point game for the Vikings, and Matthew Yoakum was good for 4 points. Sam Riggs added 2 points.

The Vikings were led on the boards by Derek Worthley's 10 rebound effort. Josh Fischer and Shane Henry each had 7 rebounds. Matthew Yoakum had 2 rebounds. Sam Riggs, Taylor Ayres, and Jacob Kraft each had 1 rebound.

Shane Henry had 5 steals and 1 assist. Derek Worthley had 3 steals and 1 assist. Sam Riggs had 2 steals and 1 assist. Jason Kurzweil had 1 steal and 1 assist. Josh Fischer had 2 steals and Matthew Yoakum had 1 steal.

Midway led Barstow 13-8 at the end of the first quarter of the JV boys' game. The JV Knights rallied to lead the JV Vikings 28-17 at the half. Barstow led Midway 46-22 by the end of the third quarter. The final score was JV Knights 67 and JV Vikings 28.

Cody Foreman scored a team high 9 points for the JV Vikings. Bryan Fregeau scored 8 points. Tyler Johnston scored 5 points, and Zach Goddard scored 4 points. Adam Fischer added 2 points.

Midway's "C" boys, JV girls, JV boys, varsity girls, and varsity are scheduled to play at Prairie View (LaCygne, KS) on Tuesday, December 16. The JV girls will play at 5:00 PM in the high school gym, followed by the varsity girls' game and then the varsity boys' game. The JV boys' game will be played in the middle school gym at 5:00 PM, followed by the "C" boys' game.

Thursday, December 18, Midway's varsity teams host Orrick.
