LADY VIKES WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT TITLE; VIKINGS BATTLE BUT COME IN SECOND

The best athletes in the Western Missouri Conference gathered at Cass Midway High School on Tuesday, May 5 for the 44th Annual WEMO Track & Field Championships. Midway's Lady Vikes took the girls' team title for the fifth year in a row. The Vikes were close, but Appleton City won the boys' team title.


Cass Midway scored 189 points to win the girls' division. Adrian was second with 164 points. Archie was a very distant third with 68 points.


Appleton City scored 155 points to win the boys' team title. Cass Midway was second with 148 ½ points, and Adrian was third with 102 ½ points.


Mackenzie Weis, Shelby Garrigus, and Shannon Carver all had double gold medal performances for the Lady Vikings.


Shannon Carver won the girls' pole vault by clearing 9' 0", and Shannon claimed the shot put crown with a heave of 32' 5 ½". Shelby Garrigus mined triple jump gold with a leap of 32' 5 ½", and Shelby was first in the long jump with a 15' 6 ½" effort. Mackenzie Weis won the 1600 meter run in a time of 5:57.69, and Mackenzie finished the sweep of the distance races by running a first place time of 12:55.60 in the 3200 meter run.


Bree Renner was the girls' high jump champion clearing 4' 9", and Hannah Mills won the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:05.64.


Justin Beshore swept the WEMO hurdle titles. Justin won the boys'110 meter high hurdles in a time of 16.54 seconds. He claimed gold in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles in a time of 42.97 seconds.


Clint Hayes won the boys' 200 meter dash in a time of 23.97 seconds. Sam Riggs was the pole vault champion clearing 12' 0".


The Vikings' 4x200 meter relay team of Justin Beshore, Sam Riggs, Zach Goddard, and Clint Hayes finished first in a time of 1:37.83.


Kelsey Weis was second in the girls' 1600 meter run in a time of 6:13.80. Victoria Bynum was second in the 100 meter high hurdles in a time of 19.56 seconds. The Lady Vikes' 4x800 meter relay team of Kelsey Weis, Mackenzie Weis, Josie Riggs, and Kayla Robinson ran a second place time of 10:38.87.


The Lady Vikes' 4x 100 meter relay team of Josie Riggs, Shannon Carver, Lesli Wright, and Bree Renner placed second in a time of 58.10 seconds. The Lady Vikes' 4x400 meter relay team of Kayla Robinson, Josie Riggs, Lesli Wright, and Shelby Garrigus ran a second place time of 4:46.66.


Clint Hayes was second in the boys' 300 meter intermediate hurdles in a time of 43.21 seconds. Christian Carl placed second in the shot put with a 38' 8"effort. Zach Goddard had a second place mark of 37' 9" in the triple jump.


The Vikings' 4x400 meter relay team of Clint Hayes, Sam Riggs, Taylor Ayres, and Justin Beshore ran a second place time of 3:45.25.


Kayla Robinson ran a third place time of 2:39.62 in the girls' 800 meter run. Victoria Bynum was third in the 300 meter low hurdles with a time of 55.69 seconds. Shelby Jurgeson was third in the 100 meter high hurdles in a time of 20.32 seconds.


The Lady Vikes' 4x200 meter relay team of Kayla Robinson, Lesli Wright, Alyson Chapman, and Bree Renner placed third in a time of 2:02.88.


Tyler Machal was third in the boys' 1600 meter run in a time of 5:13.03. Tyler Yahnig cleared 10' 0" to place third in the pole vault.


Hannah Mills had a pair of fourth place finishes. Hannah was fourth in the girls' high jump clearing 4' 4", and she had a fourth place mark of 28' 11 ½" in the triple jump.


Kelsey Weis was fourth in the girls' 800 meter run in a time of 2:42.74. Josie Riggs made 6' 6" to place fourth in the pole vault. Leigh Anne Stark ran a fourth place time of 15:04.00 in the 3200 meter run.


Paul Stark was fourth in the boys' 1600 meter run in a time of 5:23.67, and Paul had a fourth place time of 11:27.00 in the 3200 meter run. Sam Riggs had a fourth place mark of 35' 8" in the triple jump, and Christian Carl was fourth in the discus event with a toss of 103' 9".


The Vikes' 4x800 meter relay team of Bryan Fregeau, Jacob Damron, Tyler Machal, and Paul Stark ran a fourth place time of 9:36.39. The Vikes' 4x100 meter relay team of Dylan Beshore, Taylor Ayres, Zach Goddard, and Adrian Carder ran a fourth place time of 49.27 seconds.


Tesa Renner was fifth in the girls' shot put event with a 27' ½" effort. Shelby Jurgeson was fifth in the 300 meter low hurdles in a time of 1:01.92. Leigh Anne Stark ran a fifth place time of 1:11.53 in the 400 meter dash.


Christopher Zoog ran a fifth place time of 11:52.81 in the boys' 3200 meter run. Zach Goddard had a fifth place mark of 18' 3 ½" in the long jump.


Jennifer Gorsage was sixth in the girls' discus with a mark of 63' 7".


Adrian Carder had a sixth place time of 19.63 seconds in the boys' 110 meter high hurdles. Dylan Beshore was sixth in the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.41 seconds. Taylor Ayres cleared 5' 2" to place sixth in the high jump.


Dylan Beshore had a seventh place time of 25.91 seconds in the boys' 200 meter dash, and Dylan was seventh in the long jump with a 17' 10 ¼" effort. Jacob Damron tied for seventh in the high jump clearing 4' 10".


Shelby Garrigus ran a seventh place time of 29.49 seconds in the girls' 200 meter dash. Hannah Mills had a seventh place mark of 13' 9" in the long jump.


Shannon Carver was eighth in the girls' 100 meter dash in a time of 14.76 seconds.


Hank Chrisman ran an eighth place time of 1:01.83 in the boys' 400 meter dash. Bryan Fregeau was eighth in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:27.35.


Cass Midway High School will play host to the MSHSAA Class 1 District 3 track & field meet on Saturday, May 9. Field events get underway at 11:00 AM. The top four place finishers in individual events and relays will advance from the district meet to the sectional meet Saturday, May 16 at John F. Kennedy Stadium in Springfield.
