GARRIGUS, CARVER, & RIGGS STATE BOUND!

Cass Midway High School was the host of the 2008 MSHSAA Class 2 Section 3-4 State Qualifying Track & Field Meet on Saturday, May 10. Twenty-nine different high schools were represented at the meet.

 

Only the top four finishers in individual events and relays qualify for the state championships meet next Friday and Saturday (May 16 & 17) at Dwight T. Reed Stadium on the campus of Lincoln University in Jefferson City. Cass Midway will be represented at state by juniors Shelby Garrigus and Sam Riggs, and by sophomore Shannon Carver.

 

Shelby Garrigus won the girls’ triple jump with a mark of 34’ 10 ¾”. Shelby also qualified to state in the long jump with a fourth place mark of 16’ 2 ¼”.

 

Shannon Carver and Sam Riggs each qualified to state in the pole vault. Shannon was second in the girls’ vault by clearing 8’ 6”. Sam was third in the boys’ vault by clearing 12’ 0”.

 

Justin Beshore was fifth in the boys’ 300 meter intermediate hurdles in a time of 42.6 seconds.

 

Kelsey Weis competed in the girls’ 800 meter run at the section meet. Kelsey placed sixth in a time of 2:31.5. Megan Carver was sixth in the girls’ pole vault by clearing 7’ 6”.

 

The Vikings’ 4x200 meter relay team of Justin Beshore, Jacob Carver, Sam Riggs, and Clint Hayes ran a sixth place time of 1:37.5.

 

Brianna Wright had a pair of seventh place district finishes for the Lady Vikings. Brianna ran a seventh place time of 17.0 seconds in the girls’ 100 meter high hurdles, and she clocked a seventh place time of 50.6 seconds in the 300 meter low hurdles.

 

The Lady Vikings’ 4x200 meter relay team of Shelby Garrigus, Bree Renner, Megan Carver, and Brianna Wright ran a seventh place time of 1:55.8.

 

Justin Beshore ran a seventh place time of 16.1 seconds in the boys’ 110 meter high hurdles. Clint Hayes was seventh in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles in a time of 44.2 seconds. Lane Hall was seventh in the shot put event with a mark of 38’ 5”.

 

Shelby Garrigus will jump in the triple jump at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 16 at the state championships.

 

Sam Riggs will vault in the boys’ pole vault state championship at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 17. Shelby Garrigus will jump in the long jump at the same time. Shannon Carver will vault in the girls’ pole vault state championship at 2:00 PM on Saturday.

 

Doug Carder, Cass Midway’s boys’ head coach, is a state championship meet official for both weekends of the MSHSAA Track & Field Championships.
