STATE TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Cass Midway had three athletes competing in four events at the Class 1/Class 2 MSHSAA Track & Field Championships Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17. The championships were held at Dwight T. Reed Stadium on the campus of Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri.

 

Shelby Garrigus was the top seeded Class 2 girl’s triple jumper, but she had a rough day Friday. Shelby jumped 32’ 11 ¾” but failed to make finals, placing twelfth overall.

 

Sam Riggs vaulted in the Class 2 boys’ pole vault state championship on Saturday, May 17.  He cleared 11’ 0” to place fourteenth. Shelby Garrigus had an eleventh place jump of 15’ 4 ½” in the Class 2 girl’s long jump. Shannon Carver cleared 9’ 0” to place ninth in the Class 2 girls’ pole vault.

 

Doug Carder, Cass Midway’s boys’ head coach, was a state championship meet official this past weekend. Coach Carder will return to Jefferson City to officiate this weekend’s Class 3/Class 4 state championship event.
