WEMO CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Cass Midway’s Lady Vikings crushed the competition to win the 2008 WEMO Conference Track & Field Championships, Tuesday, April 29. The Vikings put together a valiant effort but came up short in their quest for a conference title.

 

The Lady Vikings scored 154 points as they won their fourth consecutive WEMO Conference title. Adrian was second with 98 points, and Archie was third with 92 points. Rich Hill took the boys’ team title with 111 ½ points. Cass Midway was second with 92 points, and Appleton City was third with 90 points.

 

Brianna Wright won three events for the Lady Vikings. Brianna won the 100 meter high hurdles in a time of 16.81 seconds, and she won the 300 meter low hurdles in a time of 52.21 seconds. Brianna capped-off her night by winning the 200 meter dash in a time of 28.75 seconds.

 

Shelby Garrigus was the girls’ champion in the long jump with a mark of 15’ 4 ¼”, and she took first place in the triple jump with a leap of 34’ 8 ¾”. Shannon Carver cleared 9’ 0” to win the pole vault, and Bree Renner won the high jump by clearing 4’ 8”.

 

Justin Beshore and Sam Riggs were conference champions. Justin swept the boys’ hurdles for the Vikings. Justin won the 110 meter high hurdles in a time of 16.50 seconds, and he ran a first place time of 43.21 seconds in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles. Sam Riggs won the pole vault by clearing 11’ 6”.

 

Megan Carver was second in the girls’ pole vault by clearing 7’ 6”, and she ran a second place time of 1:07.76 in the 400 meter dash. Victoria Bynum ran a second place time of 19.51 seconds in the 100 meter high hurdles, and she ran a second place time of 55.30 seconds in the 300 meter low hurdles. Kelsey Weis placed second in the 1600 meter run in a time of 5:56.38, and she placed second in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:39.57.

 

Jacob Carver was second in the boys’ pole vault by clearing 10’ 6”. Clint Hayes ran a second place time of 43.89 in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles. The Vikings’ 4x200 meter relay team of Justin Beshore, Brett Fregeau, Sam Riggs, and Clint Hayes ran a second place time of 1:37.96.

 

Shelby Garrigus ran a third place time of 13.78 seconds in the girls’ 100 meter dash. The Lady Vikes’ 4x800 meter relay team of Kelsey Weis, Leigh Anne Stark, Renae O’Keefe, and Samantha Dever ran a third place time of 11:57.53. The 4x200 meter relay team of Bree Renner, Shelby Garrigus, Kelsey Weis, and Megan Carver ran a third place time of 2:02.07.

 

Clint Hayes ran a third place time of 24.53 seconds in the boys’ 200 meter dash. Lane Hall had a third place mark of 38’ 5 ¼” in the shot put. The Vikes’ 4x400 meter relay team of Brett Fregeau, Sam Riggs, Justin Beshore, and Clint Hayes ran a third place time of 3:49.53.

 

Leigh Anne Stark was fourth in the girls’ 3200 meter run in a time of 14:39.73. Shannon Carver had a fourth place effort of 86’ 5” in the discus event.

 

Lane Hall placed fourth in the boys’ discus with a mark of 120’ 0”. The Vikings’ 4x100 meter relay team of Lane Hall, Jacob Carver, Sam Riggs, and Cody Foreman ran a fourth place time of 48.80 seconds.

 

Bree Renner ran a fifth place time of 1:10.03 in the girls’ 400 meter dash. Leigh Anne Stark was fifth in the 1600 meter run in a time of 6:42.69. Samantha Dever had a fifth place time of 14:46.47 in the 3200 meter run.

 

Shannon Carver had a fifth place mark of 28’ 11 ¼” in the girls’ shot put. The Lady Vikings’ 4x100 meter relay team of Callie Mincks, Kassie Williams, Jessica Conklin, and Kaitlyn Hansen ran a fifth place time of 1:06.66.

 

Brett Fregeau was fifth in the boys’ 400 meter dash in a time of 55.99 seconds. Nick Smith was fifth in the 3200 meter run in a time of 12:09.52. Stephen Buckman had a fifth place mark of 37’ ¾” in the shot put.

 

The Vikings’ 4x800 meter relay team of Josh Hague, Jacob Damron, Collin Kalberloh, and Adrian Carder ran a fifth place time of 10:32.55.

 

Josh Hague was sixth in the boys’ 800 meter run in a time of 2:24.83. Brett Fregeau ran a sixth place time of 25.53 in the 200 meter dash. Jacob Carver had a sixth place mark of 17’ 4” in the long jump, and Christian Carl was sixth in the discus event with a toss of 99’ 1”.

 

The MSHSAA Class 2 District 7 Meet is at Midway on Saturday, May 3, and the MSHSAA Section 3/4 State Qualifying Meet is at Midway on Saturday, May 10.
